Growing up, my family, as a whole, was not rooted in sports or exercising but I believe my parents saw the importance of being involved in activities and sports and so I was involved in ballet, gymnastics, cheerleading, soccer, basketball, swimming and diving but as time went on, life got in the way and I lost interest altogether. As a young adult, I did things here and there to help myself lose weight but nothing really stuck or held my interest on any kind of regular consistent basis.
As time went on, I became a mother, grandmother and self employed business owner. I have been a wife and a step parent and understand just how demanding and hectic life can be and how diet, exercise and prioritizing my own wellness can get put on the back burner.
It wasn't until 2005 when I was in my mid-thirties and experienced 3 major life changes all at once and was given medications to help me cope with my mental health, that I started looking for other alternatives to help myself feel better and to start taking better care of myself
For me, one of those alternatives was going to the gym where my true fitness and wellness journey began and before I ever considered any formal education in Sports and Science and Sports Medicine. I have always been someone who enjoyed learning about how to improve myself, whether it came from self help books or from learning the ways of people who were already successful. Mentors I could learn from. I could laugh today and call myself ignorant because I never hired anyone to help me with any of these things. I am self taught but I wouldn't have it any other way because that's the beauty of the journey and why I am so passionate about helping others and why I am good at what I do. I have been where you've been. I live what I teach. I talk the talk and walk the walk. I will never tell anyone to do something or try something that I haven't done already or tried myself. This is where I learned all of the pitfalls, traps, what works and what doesn't and will share them with you so you can avoid them.
My formal education only came after fitness had become my lifestyle and seeing first hand what exercise and good nutrition could do for me and only decided to get my credentials so I wouldn't be accused of being a fraud, haha. People could feel confident and trust in what I was saying was true, if they wanted some solid fitness and nutrition advice.
I am laid back, free thinking, and an empath, which says a lot but it also means that I enjoy investigating and solving mysteries and am always open to learning and evolving as a human being. I understand that we all come from different backgrounds and upbringings and that we have different ideologies to approaching life but I also understand the realities of life, the science of life, the need for a well balanced life, human behaviors and how it all connects together, no matter who we are or what our differences may be. Being different is my specialty and creating a different approach to your better health and quality of life is my purpose and I don't like to give up.
My own personal wellness journey echoed life in many ways, with many ups and downs, twists and turns, setbacks and comebacks. I believe that is what people should expect on their own journey as well because it truly is a journey and not a destination. There are no finish lines.
